Holiday Entertaining: New Year's Eve Part III

Last updated 3 years ago

Unique New Year's Eve decorations can be so difficult to find... why not make them yourself?

Bring the brightness and cheer of the new year by hanging a few of these glittered Chinese lanterns around. Make them to match your party colors, or just stick to NYE classics of gold, silver, or black.

What you'll need

  • Paper lanterns (If making a bunch, use different sized laterns)
  • Spray glue
  • Glitter
  • Cloth to catch glitter droppings
What you'll need to do
  • Follow the directions on the package of the paper lantern to insert the light bulb and create the globe shape.
  • With your glitter can, spray the lantern in patches then immediately add a handful of glitter. Let the extra glitter drip onto your drop cloth. You can use the extras as you go along or at the end.
  • Repeat, repeat repeat! The key to glitter is layers upon layers. You don’t want it to look sparse so you might have to go over it again and again.
Tip: Do this in an area where you wouldn’t mind glitter remaining. Glitter has a mind of its own and will stay on whatever is near.

Our next entertaining idea for your New Year's Eve party is a tip that will make drink service and clean up a breeze. Create a self service center in your kitchen sink. Fill your sink with sodas, water, beer, wine, and ice then set up a cup, napkin, and garnish center on your counter right next to the sink. Your guests will feel at ease helping themselves, since everything is in the open and easy to find. Put a candle, flowers, or some other type of decor to make the area more inviting. Clean up will also be a breeze for you because you just have to let the ice melt and go down the drain. It doesn't get easy than that!
